The songs are Aim For The Head, and also Don’t Aim for The Head, by the band X Oneway X

X Oneway X is a (joke) band featuring Bill Henderson (former guitar player for the band Thursday). Bill appeared as a guest on my radio show back in April of 2006. Listen to that Interview here.

Aim For The Head and Don’t Aim For The Head are two songs that both kind of go together. Aim For The Head comes before Don’t Aim For The Head. It is a song about zombies. Obviously making fun of the concept that you have to aim for the head to kill the zombies.

“You have to aim for the head, when you battle the undead.”

Don’t Aim For The Head is about dodgeball. In dodgeball your out if you throw the ball at someones head you lose.

“when playing dodgeball you must play by the rules. Aim for somebody’s head, you lose”

The songs are not recorded very well at all, however their content and lyrics and concepts makes them great songs. So today I thank X Oneway X for proving that the recording qualitiy of the song doesn’t have be the greatest as long as the content makes up for it.

Now here is a link to another classic X Oneway X song — “Generic Hardcore Song”, which makes fun of the hardcore music scene.

I had never really heard of Bracewar until this past summer when my buddy Brad recommended them to me. I am glad he did because they totally put the pwnage out there. They are a hardcore band out of Richmond Virginia. The band has been around since 2005. They are one of my favorite hardcore bands I’ve been listening to most recently.

Unresolved Issues is the third song on their record Juggernaut.

I chose Unresolved Issues as the song of the day because despite being only 54 seconds long it really packs quite a punch. I even believe it may be my favorite song that is under a minute that I ever heard. It’s got sweet guitars, good drums, awesome flow of vocals. All amazing and all within 54 totally rad seconds.

The lyrics are rad too.

Part of the song goes as follows:

Mad props to Bracewar for proving that even if something is short and quick it can be extremely awesome.

The song is the second track on the album In Defense of the Genre, which was released in October of 2007.

It features the wickedly awesome vocals of Say Anything‘s singer Max Bemis.

The main reason I really like this song is because there is just something about the vocals in it that really appeal to me. The flow of the words really make it a very dynamic and interesting song to listen too. The lyrics are also pretty good, however I feel they are actually average when compared to some of the other songs on the record (however they are still thousands of times better then the lyrics found in most other music out there).

My favorite verse of the song goes as follows:

” I’d rather spend an evening giving birth
than see how your eyes are glued
on everyone but the person you’re talking to.
Trapped between babushkas on a plane
is a fraction of how lame
It is to watch you pump the poison through your veins.”

A little bit of trivia about this song:

“No Soul” contains a portion of the composition “Juicy Fruit“, which was originally written by James Mtume.

The song also features backing vocals from Anna Waronker, and turntable work done by DJ Swamp.

It’s a pretty rad tune, and definitely one of my favorites on In Defense of the Genre.
